Troubleshoot Exchange network security

This feature requires you to be using a Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail account. You must be using Microsoft Windows XP or later.

You can use the Stored User Names and Passwords dialog box to change the password in Windows XP or later.

Show How?

Click Advanced, and then click Manage Passwords.
Click the entry you want, and then click Properties.
In Control Panel, double-click User Accounts.

Note You can also use the Change Password button on the Windows Security dialog box by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL. For more information, see Windows Help.

The Stored User Names and Passwords dialog box stores the user names and passwords that you use for authentication when you access different network resources including a Microsoft Exchange server. If you try to connect to a different mailbox in the same domain, the logon may fail because the user name and password that are already stored may fail to provide access to the mailbox that you are trying to connect to or it may provide access to the mailbox but with a different set of permissions depending on the permissions that were available for the previously used account. In this case, you will be prompted to provide the new set of credentials for logon or incorrect credentials may be used.

To resolve this problem, you can do one of the following:

Show Delete incorrect entries in the Stored User Names and Passwords dialog box.

Click Advanced and click Manage Passwords.
Click the entry you want, and then click Remove.
In Control Panel, double-click User Accounts.

Show Configure the security settings to always prompt for user name and password.

On the Tools menu, click E-mail accounts, select View or change existing e-mail accounts, click Next, select the Exchange e-mail account, and then click Change.
Click More Settings, then click the Security tab.
Select the Always prompt for username and password check box.

Show Resolve the user name for the mailbox.

On the Tools menu, click E-mail accounts, select View or change existing e-mail accounts, click Next, select the Microsoft Exchange server e-mail account, and then click Change.
Type the user name in the User Name field, and then click Check Name.
